As an Outside Machinist, you will be responsible for installing, aligning, and testing main propulsion plant machinery, as well as performing overhaul, maintenance, and installation of valves, pumps, turbines, and heat exchangers.</p>\n<p>Key responsibilities include:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reading, interpreting, and following blueprints and sketches to understand project specifications</li>\n<li>Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail</li>\n<li>Figuring material take-offs on drawings for required cut lengths</li>\n<li>Marking reference points and transposing them to workpieces using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and/or soapstone</li>\n<li>Planning pipe system layout, installation, or repair per specifications</li>\n<li>Installing large and small machinery, including pipe systems, pumps, and motors</li>\n<li>Using precision instruments to achieve proper alignment and fit</li>\n<li>Operating machine tools and portable equipment to modify or fabricate parts as needed</li>\n</ul>\n<p>In addition to technical skills, we are looking for someone who can work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced ship production environment.
