We are seeking a skilled Diesel Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting diesel engines and related systems on our autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
\nResponsibilities:\nPerform routine maintenance tasks on diesel engines, including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks, to ensure proper functioning and longevity.\nDiagnose and repair diesel engine malfunctions, mechanical issues, and electrical faults using diagnostic tools, technical manuals, and troubleshooting techniques.\nInspect and test diesel engine components, systems, and subsystems to identify and address potential problems or areas of concern.\nOverhaul and rebuild diesel engines and associated systems, including fuel injection systems, turbochargers, and exhaust systems, as needed to restore performance and efficiency.\nMaintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, labor hours, and service performed, to track equipment history and ensure compliance with maintenance schedules and regulatory requirements.\nFollow safety protocols and procedures for working with diesel engines and related equipment, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials and fluids.\nCollaborate with other maintenance technicians, engineers, and operators to troubleshoot complex problems, share technical knowledge, and implement effective solutions.
\nQualifications:\nMarine Diesel and/or Volvo VODIA experience required.\nHigh school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in diesel mechanics or a related field preferred.\nProven experience as a diesel mechanic, with demonstrated proficiency in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and related systems.\nStrong mechanical aptitude and technical skills, with the ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.\nFamiliarity with diagnostic tools and equipment used in diesel engine repair, such as scan tools, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.\nExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues.\nEffective communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.\nWillingness to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with changing priorities and deadlines.\nCurrently holding or has the ability to hold an Australian Government Security Clearance – NV1 or above.\nAbility to travel as needed to meet business objectives, including throughout the Indo-Pacific region and to our headquarters in Austin, Texas.
\nPhysical Demands:\nThe ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours/day.\nThe ability to frequently and repetitively lift, push and carry up to 18 kg's.\nThe ability to carry 18 kg's. up and down stairs.\nThe ability to work outside for an extended period of time.\nThe ability to frequently and repetitively bend, lift and reach to install vehicle parts of varying size and weight overhead, accurately and in allotted timeframes.\nThe ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours/day, including over varied and uneven terrain.\nThe ability to stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours/day.\nThe ability to climb and maintain balance on ladders, platforms, or other high structures.\nThe ability to find issues in a work process and be alert to safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing.\nThe ability to handle and manipulate tooling and mechanically fasten bolts within required cycle time.\nThe exposure to hazardous materials and the ability to follow waste handling/disposal procedures.\nThe wearing of Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, gloves and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines.
