Bookkeeping Specialist

As a Bookkeeping Specialist on the Human Data Team, you'll create cutting-edge datasets for training, benchmarking, and advancing AI models. Collaborating closely with technical staff, you'll support xAI's mission through labeling and annotating data in text, voice, and video formats. Your expertise will focus on practical bookkeeping scenarios across small- to mid-sized business domains, including recording daily transactions, managing accounts payable and receivable, performing bank reconciliations, handling basic payroll, and preparing financial reports (primarily in QuickBooks).

Tasks may include capturing or providing data through audio/video recordings, so comfort with those formats is required. This fast-paced role requires adaptability, attention to detail, and the ability to follow evolving instructions to enhance model accuracy and performance.

Responsibilities:

Use proprietary software applications to provide input/labels on defined projects.

Support and ensure the delivery of high-quality curated data.

Collaborate with technical staff to improve the design of efficient annotation tools.

Regularly interpret, analyze, and execute tasks based on provided instructions.

Work on bookkeeping problems from real-world business scenarios that align with your expertise, providing accurate solutions, detailed annotations, and model critiques where you can confidently evaluate responses (e.g., transaction records, invoices, receipts, bank statements, and payroll entries).

Basic Qualifications:

3+ years of practical bookkeeping experience (hands-on role handling day-to-day financial records).

Proficiency in QuickBooks to perform common bookkeeping tasks, including bank reconciliations, invoice processing, expense tracking, and basic financial statement preparation.

Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills for handling financial data.

Ability to navigate bookkeeping resources, such as QuickBooks help features, basic financial documents, and online references.

Comfort with Microsoft Excel or other tools for data organization and analysis.

Proficiency in reading and writing, both in informal and professional English.

Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Solid reading comprehension skills combined with the capacity to exercise autonomous judgment even when presented with limited data/material.

Enthusiasm for technology, AI advancements, and improving tools in the business space.

Location and Other Expectations:

Tutor roles may be offered as full-time, part-time, or contractor positions, depending on role needs and candidate fit.

For contractor positions, hours will vary widely based on project scope and contractor availability, with no fixed commitments required. On average most projects may involve at least 10 hours per week to achieve deliverables effectively though this is not a fixed commitment and depends on the scope of work. Contractors have full flexibility to set their own hours and determine the exact amount of time needed to complete deliverables.

Tutor roles may be performed remotely from any location worldwide, subject to legal eligibility, time-zone compatibility, and role specific needs.

For US based candidates, please note we are unable to hire in the states of Wyoming and Illinois at this time.

We are unable to provide visa sponsorship.

For those who will be working from a personal device, your computer must be a Chromebook, Mac with MacOS 11.0 or later, or Windows 10 or later.
