Account Executive

When Karl Elsener introduced the original Swiss Army knife, he wasn't just crafting a tool; he was defining a new standard for adaptable craftsmanship, something that works just as well in a workshop as it does in the wild.

That spirit is at the heart of this Account Executive role at Mercury, where success comes from being a true multipurpose operator: someone who can prospect, run discovery, adapt on the fly, decode messy financial workflows, and make founders feel understood and supported.

At Mercury, we build modern business banking along with tools for payments, cards, and cash management so companies can run their finances from a single, intuitive dashboard. We are looking for multiple Account Executives to help a wide range of businesses make Mercury the core of how money moves through their company.

One day you might be talking to a fast-growing AI startup, the next to an ecommerce brand you love, or a 30-year-old family-owned business that is ready to modernize its banking and finance operations. Many of these customers are lean and fast-moving, and they will look to you as a partner who understands both their business and their operations.

This is a full-cycle, quota-carrying, consultative role in a fast-changing environment where you will build and iterate on your own sales motion.

Responsibilities

Own a quota and the full sales cycle from first touch through activation across a diverse range of companies across all stages, industries, and use cases.

Design and execute your own pipeline strategy across outbound, inbound, and creative channels, while partnering closely with SDRs.

Run high-quality discovery with founders, operators, and lean finance teams to uncover real problems in how they manage cash, payments, and financial operations.

Connect pain-points to Mercury's products and tell clear, simple stories that help customers make confident decisions.

Drive a strong pipeline of high-velocity deals while staying in control of your time and competing priorities.

Collaborate with Account Management, Partnerships, Marketing, and Product to win complex deals and unlock new segments.

Turn what you see in the field into structured feedback and ideas that improve our go-to-market motion, processes, and product.

Who You Are

Coachable and growth-oriented. You seek out feedback, integrate it quickly, and can point to a clear improvement curve in your recent roles.

Curious, creative, and strategic. You ask why, not just what, and you adjust your approach based on the customer, especially in founder-led cycles.

Scrappy and resourceful. You are comfortable without a rigid playbook, clean territory, or heavy inbound, and you know how to build pipeline from almost zero.

Disciplined and accountable. You manage your time, pipeline, and follow-through with intention and take ownership of both inputs and outcomes.

Comfortable with ambiguity. You have succeeded in environments where product, ICP, and GTM change quickly, and you adapt rather than stall.

Collaborative generalist. You enjoy working with SDRs, marketing, product, and post-sales, and you are excited to take on projects beyond your core deals when they unlock revenue opportunities for Mercury.

Willing to travel on occasion for conferences or strategic in-person meetings.

Qualifications

At least one year of closing experience in an Account Executive role, or equivalent full-cycle experience in a similar capacity.

Experience selling to founders, owner-operators, or small leadership teams is a plus.

Proven ability to build and manage a high-quality pipeline and hit or exceed targets in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor your message to different audiences.

A bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Genuine interest in fintech and how better financial tools can help growing businesses operate and scale.

Compensation

The total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity (stock options/RSUs), and benefits.

Our salary and equity ranges are highly competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry.

New hire offers are made based on a candidate's experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.

US employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $134,000-$168,200

US employees outside of New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $121,000-$151,400

About the Team

OpenAI didn’t begin as a traditional company. It began as an idea: that artificial intelligence could be developed in a way that benefits everyone. As a creative team, our role is to help make sure the work behind that idea is understood, as it leaves the lab and meets the world.

This company works at the frontier of intelligence. Like any frontier, it’s unfinished, constantly shifting, and still being explored. Our job is to stay close to that uncertainty and help shape how this story gets told, in a way that feels grounded and human. We do this through campaigns, launches, films, brand systems, and work that doesn’t fit neatly into any of those categories yet. This team is for people who want to help shape something from the beginning.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Creative Director, Art to join our in-house creative team. In this role, you’ll lead the visual direction and creative expression of OpenAI’s brand across campaigns, product launches, and cultural moments. You’ll shape and direct high-impact creative work that communicates the capabilities, possibilities, and responsibilities of our technology.

This role sits at the intersection of conceptual thinking and visual craft. You’ll partner closely with writers, designers, marketers, product leaders, and external collaborators to develop big ideas and bring them to life across formats—from key visuals and digital experiences to films, product storytelling, and live brand moments.

To us, creativity is a team sport. Ideas get better when you talk them through and build on each other’s thinking. We value curiosity over certainty, kindness over ego, and the ability to balance craft with decisiveness.

Responsibilities

Lead the visual concepting and creative direction for brand campaigns, product launches, and key storytelling initiatives

Develop and direct compelling visual ideas that translate OpenAI’s products and technology into clear, inspiring, and culturally resonant creative work

Partner closely with Creative Directors, writers, designers, motion artists, and producers to shape integrated campaign ideas

Provide creative leadership from early concept through final execution across multiple channels and formats

Guide the visual direction of campaign photography, illustration, motion, film, and digital experiences—sometimes hands-on, often through external collaborators

Collaborate closely with Product, Research, Marketing, and Comms to translate complex technology into compelling visual storytelling

Help evolve OpenAI’s visual language and brand system in ways that are distinctive, scalable, and expressive

Maintain a high bar for visual craft, conceptual thinking, and creative ambition across all work

Lead multiple creative initiatives simultaneously with clarity, strong decision-making, and creative conviction

Requirements

Have 10+ years of experience as an Art Director or Creative Director at a top-tier creative agency and/or in-house at a modern technology company, with experience in both strongly preferred

Bring a strong background in visual design and art direction across channels—including digital, social, film, product storytelling, and experiential work

Are a conceptual thinker who can develop big creative ideas and guide them from early strategy through execution

Have experience leading integrated campaigns and large-scale brand initiatives

Are comfortable operating in fast-moving environments with evolving priorities and complex creative challenges

Have exceptional design taste and a deep commitment to visual craft and storytelling

Are a strong cross-functional collaborator who works effectively with writers, designers, marketers, product leaders, and external collaborators

What We Offer

Competitive salary and equity package

Opportunity to work on high-impact creative projects that shape the future of AI

Collaborative and dynamic team environment

Flexible work arrangements, including remote work options

Access to cutting-edge technology and tools

Professional development opportunities, including training and mentorship

Recognition and rewards for outstanding performance

How to Apply

If you’re passionate about creating innovative and impactful visual work, and you’re excited about the opportunity to join a dynamic and collaborative team, please submit your application, including your resume and a cover letter that outlines your experience and qualifications for this role.

We can’t wait to hear from you!
