Conduct daily inspections of facilities areas to ensure performance standards and proactively report issues. Maintain spare parts inventory to minimize downtime and assist with ordering as needed. Follow and contribute to standard operating procedures (SOPs) for consistency and efficiency. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards. Collaborate with cross-functional teams for equipment maintenance and minor installations. Document all work performed, including repairs and observations, for accurate records. Support team efforts in troubleshooting and basic repairs.

Basic Qualifications: 2+ years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related role (data center experience preferred). Solid knowledge of mechanical, electrical, or plumbing systems. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and basic diagnostic equipment. Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Ability to manage time and priorities effectively.

Preferred Skills and Experience: Associate's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience (e.g., HVAC, electrical, or mechanical certification). Experience with building management systems (BMS) or environmental monitoring tools. EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification (EPA 608 Technician). Familiarity with preventive maintenance scheduling.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced facilities professional to support parts of our expanding real estate portfolio across the globe. This is an extremely dynamic role that balances time between large scale collaborative projects and focus work around facilities standards and safeguards. This role reports to the AMERs Workplace Leader within the Workplace Operations org and involves close collaboration across various REW pillars and other cross-functional partners including Design & Construction, Leasing, Global Food Programs, Corporate Security, IT, and other external partners.

In this role you will:

• Develop, align, and maintain technical facilities standards globally, defining how OpenAI designs, operates, and maintains its buildings in a way that ensures safety, reliability, scalability, and consistency across regions while respecting local requirements.

• Build and manage a high-quality vendor bench for facilities operations, including selecting, onboarding, and partnering with specialized service providers to support maintenance, emergency response, and ongoing operational excellence.
