This position is for an engineering manager, a manager of supervisors, a leader of teams for the Southern Company Process Chemistry Group. The team provides expert support in process engineering and chemistry, including steam water chemistry, water treatment, wastewater treatment, and air pollution control.

WORK LOCATION

This position will be located in Birmingham, AL or Atlanta, GA. The role requires travel (up to 25%), including air travel, and a mix of both field and office work. Some relocation assistance is available if the selected candidate currently resides outside the Birmingham or Atlanta areas.

POSITION SUMMARY

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Be a champion for Process Safety Management (PSM) practices, including Inherent Safe Design, Process Hazard Analyses (PHA, HAZID, HAZOP, etc.), Hazard Mitigation Analyses (HMA), Design Hazard Reviews, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), and Management of Change (MOC).
• Hire, equip, prepare, counsel, performance-manage, and maintain teams of professionals.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, or similar science is required.
• Experience: Two or more years of experience in leading engineers and/or chemists as a manager, supervisor, or team leader. At least 10 years working as an engineer or chemist in power generation, paper mill, petrochemical, refinery, gas operations, pipeline, or other heavy industrial processes is required.
• Five or more years of direct application of PSM practices.
• Proven track record of optimizing and troubleshooting complex mechanical and chemical processes.
• Recognized to have strong communication and presenting skills of complex matters to various audiences.
