<p>This position is for an engineering manager, a manager of supervisors, a leader of teams for the Southern Company Process Chemistry Group. The team provides expert support in process engineering and chemistry, including steam water chemistry, water treatment, wastewater treatment, and air pollution control.</p>
<p><strong>WORK LOCATION</strong></p>
<p>This position will be located in Birmingham, AL or Atlanta, GA. The role requires travel (up to 25%), including air travel, and a mix of both field and office work. Some relocation assistance is available if the selected candidate currently resides outside the Birmingham or Atlanta areas.</p>
<p><strong>POSITION SUMMARY</strong></p>
<p>The position is responsible for leading and administering multiple teams of engineers, chemists, and specialists in proficient delivery of subject matter expertise in conceptualization, design, procurement, installation, operation, and maintenance of energy and power infrastructure.</p>
<p><strong>MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></p>

<li>Hire, equip, prepare, counsel, performance-manage, and maintain teams of professionals.</li>
<li>Prioritize and delegate work effectively.</li>
<li>Ensure predictable delivery of work products (safety, quality, performance, cost, schedule).</li>
<li>Exemplify intentional, critical review and examination of work processes and products.</li>
<li>Establish and maintain continuous improvement processes.</li>
<li>Effectively communicate complex matters to staff, company leadership, and general audiences.</li>
<li>Lead the leaders in design and process safety reviews of existing and new facilities.</li>
<li>Review and validate process equipment design specifications, safeguard specifications, commissioning, and test data.</li>

<p><strong>POSITION QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Education: Bachelor&#39;s degree in engineering, chemistry, or similar science is required.</li>
<li>Experience: Two or more years of experience in leading engineers and/or chemists as a manager, supervisor, or team leader. At least 10 years working as an engineer or chemist in power generation, paper mill, petrochemical, refinery, gas operations, pipeline, or other heavy industrial processes is required.</li>
<li>Five or more years of direct application of PSM practices.</li>
<li>Proven track record of optimizing and troubleshooting complex mechanical and chemical processes.</li>
<li>Recognized to have strong communication and presenting skills of complex matters to various audiences.</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>Job purpose:</strong></p>
<p>This role plays a key part in the assurance of chemical engineering principles within an R&amp;D business and will provide oversight and verification of the standardised engineering delivery and detailed engineering solutions.</p>
