You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the new facility, ensuring the efficient and high-quality processing of mineral exploration samples (ex. soil and stream sediment).</p>
<p>Your responsibilities will include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Laboratory management: ensuring safe and efficient operation of the laboratory</li>
<li>Teamwork: serving as a hands-on team leader, clearly communicating hazards and opportunities for improvement</li>
<li>Overseeing analytic workflow: ensuring adherence to effective operating procedures that guide sample preparation, instrument operation, sample archiving, and data storage</li>
<li>Process optimization: continuously evaluating and improving sample preparation and measurement procedures (washing, loading, and automated analysis with analytic instruments) to increase efficiency, precision, and turnaround time</li>
<li>Quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC): operating and maintaining rigorous QA/QC protocols, utilizing specialized software to track every sample through each stage of the process, ensuring data integrity and traceability</li>
<li>Equipment maintenance: overseeing the maintenance and calibration of all laboratory equipment, minimizing downtime</li>
<li>Stakeholder communication: reporting on laboratory performance, capacity, and quality metrics to the exploration and operations leadership teams</li>
</ul>
<p>You must have:</p>
<ul>
<li>At least 5 years of laboratory experience in mineral exploration &amp; mining, oil &amp; gas, or a related industry</li>
<li>Proven, extensive experience in operating a commercial or exploration mineral laboratory, with a focus on instrumentation for geochemical analysis such as laboratory balances, microscopes, and spectrometers</li>
<li>Experience with sample preparation methods for various sample types (soil, sediment, rock/drill core)</li>
<li>A track record of identifying inefficiencies and suggesting or implementing process improvements in a laboratory or operational environment</li>
<li>Demonstrated commitment to and familiarity with developing and implementing high standards of health &amp; safety in the workplace</li>
<li>A high degree of independence and the ability to work effectively with limited supervision while simultaneously feeling comfortable raising issues to teammates</li>
<li>Excitement about joining a fast-growing, early-stage company, comfort with a dynamic work environment, and eagerness to take on an evolving range of responsibilities</li>
<li>Experience working with QA/QC software or Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) to ensure sample traceability and data quality; high comfort level in interfacing with software development teams</li>
<li>Enjoyment in working closely with people in a wide variety of disciplines and different parts of the world</li>
<li>Ability to explain technical problems to and collaborate on solutions with domain experts from different disciplines. Comfortable asking questions and requesting help. A strong communicator who enjoys working with colleagues across the company</li>

      <Description><![CDATA[<p>As a Research Associate II on Freenome&#39;s Scientific Operations team, you will be responsible for all things related to biospecimen accessioning as well as processing of whole blood samples into plasma, while also supporting downstream analytical testing using Freenome&#39;s multiomics assays.</p>
<p>The role reports to Manager, Scientific Operations. This role will be an onsite role based in our Brisbane, California headquarters.</p>
<p>Responsibilities:</p>
<ul>
<li>Perform routine lab work including pre-analytical sample processing, plasma isolation, and downstream genomics and proteomics assay processing.</li>
<li>Operate liquid handler instruments to carry out experiments.</li>
<li>Troubleshoot instrument and sample processing errors as needed; escalate and report issues through appropriate channels as needed.</li>
<li>Identify and implement process improvements across the lab by thinking critically about the execution of all experiments.</li>
<li>Verify all aspects of incoming specimens and assess acceptability for analytical testing.</li>
<li>Maintain documentation for executed experiments.</li>
<li>Perform equipment maintenance according to the laboratory&#39;s standard operating procedures for the following but not limited to: Hamiltons, Biosafety Cabinets, centrifuges, freezers, refrigerators, and pipettes, as needed.</li>
<li>Assist with training of new laboratory personnel and training of new procedures with existing personnel.</li>
<li>Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory&#39;s established performance specifications.</li>
<li>Report all concerns of test quality and/or safety to the Supervisor or Safety Officer.</li>
<li>Perform other miscellaneous laboratory duties as assigned and assist others as time allows.</li>
</ul>
<p>Requirements:</p>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor&#39;s degree or Master&#39;s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, chemical biology, or a related field.</li>
<li>2+ years relevant industry experience in a laboratory setting.</li>
<li>Experience working with 96 or 384 well plate format assays.</li>
<li>Proven track record of following SOPs, work instructions or experimental designs to completion.</li>
<li>Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.</li>
<li>Ability to work, execute, and troubleshoot protocols independently.</li>
</ul>
<p>Nice to Have:</p>

<p>The US target range of our hourly rate for new hires is $37.68 - $46.69. <p><strong>Requirements</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is desired.</li>
<li>Proven experience (5+ years) in a technical service or laboratory management role; industrial/automotive fluids, lubricants or specialty chemicals industry experience desired.</li>
<li>Prior experience leading and mentoring a team.</li>
<li>Experience in managing laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, and compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines.</li>
<li>Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.</li>
<li>Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.</li>
