As the Air Dominance and Strike (AD&S) Chief Engineering Team is a driving force behind the technical execution and strategic vision of our most critical programs. They are responsible for architecting a vision for product development and guiding multi-disciplinary teams to deliver effectively. The ideal candidate will leverage their experience executing and successfully completing prior highly optimized multi-disciplinary projects. They should have a deep understanding of unmanned aircraft at and above Group 3 class, experience in a senior role leading air vehicle programs from initial concept through test and delivery to customers, and experience driving strategic direction in competitive landscapes, solving complex system optimization challenges under tight constraints.

Key responsibilities include leading technical and programmatic execution of new and existing air vehicle systems design, fabrication, test, productization and sustainment, owning the technical and programmatic success of your programs, establishing technical and programmatic vision, assembling teams of internal and external subject matter experts, and communicating that vision to them.

Additionally, you will manage the detailed design of the system and subsystems including requirements development, sub-system trades and optimization, risk management etc. to ensure the appropriate consideration of design key performance parameters, schedule, costs and risks. This role will own rapidly developed, ruggedized product introduction in addition to scaling legacy design concepts to support full-rate production. You will be directly responsible for the sustainment, consolidation, and future improvements of core tower systems including platform communications, power, structures, and sensors amongst many others.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead technical execution from vision & initial design, through fabrication, test, and production of ruggedized hardware systems and platforms

• Develop platforms and subsystems that support expeditionary operation, intuitive setup and use by warfighters, and modular expansion of sensors

• Setup trades to enable exploration of early designs while working closely with technical SMEs and Business Development

• Oversee Development teams to find the right solution for current and future gaps in capability

• Operate at the intersection of software and hardware

• Define product milestones, lead technical design reviews, guide cross-functional product decisions, and manage engineering risk

• Coordinate the fabrication of prototype and low-rate production articles and subsystem/system level test efforts

• Conduct hands-on, in-field testing and/or remote troubleshooting of deployed systems

• Create and carry out a verification and validation plan for the end to end system

Requirements:

• Ability to make educated decisions and leverage engineering trades in the absence of clear customer requirements

• Experience in a senior role leading system design and development from initial concept through test and delivery to customers

• Experience with data analysis, rapid prototyping, and early-stage customer deployments

• Familiarity with concepts of mechatronic design, firmware + software system design, sensor physics, tracking & calibration, and data-backed decision making

• Ability to lead a cross-functional team through design trades while meeting program deadlines

• Extremely organized and detail-oriented, with strong verbal & written communication skills

• Ability to travel as required for test planning and execution

• Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechanical or Electrical engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience in a relevant field
