<p><strong>About the role</strong></p>
<p>The Controller is a senior strategic leader responsible for strengthening MLT&#39;s financial infrastructure and ensuring excellence across all accounting and financial operations. This role oversees the full scope of accounting functions for MLT&#39;s $30M+ portfolio including general ledger management, accounts payable and receivable, payroll compliance, grant and fund accounting, treasury, reporting, and financial compliance while driving process improvements and ensuring year-round audit readiness.</p>
<p>In this position, you will lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Finance team, partnering closely with the CFO, program leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver accurate, timely financial insights that advance MLT&#39;s mission and support strategic decision-making.</p>

<p><strong>What You&#39;ll Do</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Lead all daily accounting activities, including general ledger oversight, accounts payable and receivable, payroll compliance, fixed assets, and cash management.</li>
<li>Oversee and execute the monthly close, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.</li>
<li>Manage annual audits and tax filings, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors.</li>
<li>Oversee grant and fund accounting, ensuring compliance with restrictions and preparing required reports.</li>
<li>Analyze and reconcile revenue, deferred revenue, and receivables; distribute revenue reports and support internal inquiries.</li>
<li>Strengthen internal controls and improve financial processes, systems, and reporting capabilities.</li>
<li>Support treasury functions, investment tracking, and banking relationships alongside the CFO.</li>
<li>Lead key operational improvement initiatives, including enhancements to the accounting system, expense, travel, and payables platforms.</li>
<li>Manage, coach, and develop the Finance team to ensure high performance and accountability.</li>
<li>Support special projects and strategic financial analysis as needed.</li>
<li>Performing other duties as assigned.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>What You Have</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor&#39;s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master&#39;s degree preferred.</li>
<li>CPA strongly preferred.</li>
<li>10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including nonprofit leadership roles.</li>
<li>Demonstrated expertise in GAAP, nonprofit fund and grant accounting, and federal grant/contract compliance.</li>
<li>Proven success managing audits, month-end close processes, financial reporting, and tax compliance.</li>
<li>Experience leading accounting teams responsible for full-cycle GL, AP, AR, and payroll.</li>
<li>Proficiency in financial systems and tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Salesforce, Excel); familiarity with cash reconciliation platforms like Stripe and MobileCause a plus.</li>
<li>Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights and guidance.</li>
<li>Exceptional attention to detail paired with strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.</li>
<li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially when explaining financial matters to non-financial stakeholders.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements, manage multiple projects, and collaborate across teams.</li>

      <Description><![CDATA[<p>We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Governance, Risk, and Compliance to build and lead our centralized GRC function. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of corporate regulatory compliance and risk management, attention to detail, strong leadership and relationship-building skills, and experience building successful compliance programs at high-growth companies.</p>
<p>You will lead the GRC function at Scale, including compliance governance, compliance advisory, risk management, and regulatory compliance. You will manage and develop a team of compliance professionals spanning governance, assurance, and GRC engineering to build scalable systems and processes.</p>
<p>Key responsibilities include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Owning and maturing Scale&#39;s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program, including risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and reporting.</li>
<li>Partnering with Legal, Security, Product, Engineering, and Operations, among other teams, to help guide Scale&#39;s growth in a highly scrutinized space.</li>
<li>Owning or contributing to Scale&#39;s AI governance strategy, including monitoring and operationalizing emerging AI regulations (EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, state AI laws).</li>
<li>Helping set and drive vision for how GRC can not only help protect Scale, but serve as a differentiator and competitive advantage.</li>

<p>Ideally, you&#39;d have:</p>

<li>10+ years of progressive experience in GRC, compliance, or related legal/regulatory roles, with demonstrated success building or scaling compliance programs.</li>
<li>Demonstrated success in building and leading high-quality compliance programs and teams.</li>
<li>Experience designing and operating an Enterprise Risk Management program.</li>
<li>Deep knowledge of applicable regulatory frameworks, including SOC 2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP, GDPR, and CPRA.</li>
<li>Experience with U.S. Government contract compliance requirements (FAR, DFARS, NIST 800-171, CMMC).</li>
<li>Proven track record of designing and maturing governance and internal control environments to support IPO readiness.</li>
<li>Excellent communicator with the ability to break down complex requirements into easy-to-understand and practical systems.</li>
