Engineering Manager

About the Role

As an Engineering Manager on the Infrastructure team at Cursor, you'll lead the team that owns the foundational cloud, networking, storage, and compute layer that every service runs on: network foundations, container orchestration, edge and security infrastructure, data storage systems, and the compute runtimes that power production.

Cursor is one of the fastest-growing developer tools in the world, and you'll drive the cost management, regional deployment strategy, and infrastructure unification that make that growth possible. When your team's systems work well, every team is more productive, every product surface is more reliable, and Cursor can expand to serve developers everywhere.

You'll set technical direction, write and review code, and lead a team of strong infrastructure engineers, balancing hands-on contribution with growing your team's impact.

What you’ll do

Owning Kubernetes and cluster foundations: building and operating production clusters with proper service mesh, scaling, and ingress that teams can confidently deploy to.

Designing the geo-deployment architecture: building a replicable, robust process for deploying geo-replicated services across cloud regions and providers.

Building edge and security infrastructure: designing the networking and security layer at the edge to protect against abuse, manage rate limiting, and optimize traffic routing.

Owning data storage strategy: leading the team's work on Postgres, OLAP systems, and caching layers, ensuring our storage infrastructure is reliable, performant, and scales with the product.

Owning cost management and optimization: building attribution systems, identifying waste, and ensuring we're making smart tradeoffs between cost and reliability across all cloud spend.

Unifying the compute platform: defining a single, opinionated container orchestration strategy so every team gets consistent, reliable deployments out of the box.

Hiring and growing the team: sourcing, interviewing, and closing top infrastructure talent, while developing your engineers through coaching, mentorship, and high-leverage project assignments.

You may be a fit if

You have led engineering teams building and operating production infrastructure or platform systems at scale.

You have deep experience with AWS (or comparable cloud providers), especially VPC networking, EKS/K8s, and IAM/account management.

You've built and operated production Kubernetes clusters at scale, including service mesh, autoscaling, and multi-region deployments.

You have strong opinions on databases, storage engines, caching, and schema design, and understand the tradeoffs between performance, consistency, and cost.

You understand edge networking, CDN/WAF architectures, and traffic management at the infrastructure level.

You care about infrastructure-as-code, reproducibility, and making it easy for other teams to self-serve reliable infrastructure.

Experience with cost optimization at scale, infrastructure migration/unification, or data storage systems (Postgres, ClickHouse, OLAP) is a plus.

Salary

$150,000 - $200,000 per year

Required Skills

About the Team

The Scaling team designs, builds, and operates critical infrastructure that enables research at OpenAI.

Our mission is simple: accelerate the progress of research towards AGI. We do this by building core systems that researchers rely on - ranging from low-level infrastructure components to research-facing custom applications. These systems must scale with the increasing complexity and size of our workloads, while remaining reliable and easy to use.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced software engineer to own production-critical infrastructure end to end.

This role is centered on backend / systems engineering, with emphasis on low-level performance, distributed systems, and hands-on operation of critical services at scale. You’ll take ambiguous problems, turn them into concrete plans, ship pragmatic solutions quickly, and improve them through production feedback and iteration.

This is not a general Python backend role. We’re specifically looking for strong systems experience in Rust or C++, especially in performance-sensitive infrastructure.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:

Own critical infrastructure across design, implementation, rollout, operation, and iteration.

Build and operate performant backend systems in Rust or C++ that support core research workflows.

Design and improve distributed data and serving systems, including tradeoffs around partitioning, replication, consistency, retries, backpressure, and failure isolation.

Debug real production bottlenecks across latency, throughput, contention, hot spots, and overload behavior.

Operate business-critical services through on-call, incidents, postmortems, observability, rollout safety, and zero-downtime migrations.

Improve reliability of services running on Kubernetes, including resource tuning and failure handling.

Partner closely with engineers and researchers to deliver fast, reliable, useful systems.

Raise the bar through strong technical judgment, ownership, and follow-through.

You might thrive in this role if you have:

A track record of owning operationally critical systems end to end and delivering outcomes in ambiguous environments.

Strong hands-on experience building performance-sensitive backend systems in Rust or C++.

Comfort working below typical service abstractions, including concurrency, async execution, memory behavior, serialization, I/O, networking, profiling, and failure analysis.

Experience designing, building, or operating distributed systems or distributed databases at meaningful scale.

Preferably, experience with ClickHouse-like systems or infrastructure for analytics, telemetry, logging, search, ingestion, storage, or query execution.

Hands-on experience operating production-critical systems, including incidents, observability, rollout safety, and recurrence prevention.

Strong judgment in balancing engineering quality, speed, risk, and business impact.

A habit of shipping practical first versions and improving them through production feedback.

Software Engineer, Platform

About the Role

We're hiring a Software Engineer on our Platform team to own and scale the systems that route and serve millions of LLM requests every day. The business is growing at an unbelievable pace and we need help to ensure our platform can keep up.

Responsibilities

Own and evolve our edge and cloud infrastructure across Cloudflare, Google Cloud, and Vercel.

Scale and operate our data layer including Spanner, ClickHouse, and Postgres.

Ensure we are optimizing for performance when serving LLM inference as traffic rapidly grows.

Partner with engineering leadership on capacity, reliability, and cost across the routing layer, with ownership of the systems carrying production traffic.

Set the bar and playbook for how we run infrastructure and operations as the team grows , tooling, observability, on-call, and the patterns other engineers build against.

Requirements

5+ years building and operating production infrastructure at companies where uptime, latency, and cost matter.

Proven experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure) and edge-first serverless platforms (e.g. Cloudflare Workers)

Deep expertise in operating large scale databases (e.g Postgres, Spanner, etc).

A full-stack TypeScript shop won't faze you; you can move across the stack when the platform needs it.

High agency and a bias toward action. You don't wait for tickets , you see the bottleneck and fix it.

AI-forward in your workflow. You use coding agents, MCPs, and LLMs heavily and have opinions about what works.

Pragmatic about tradeoffs between speed and simplicity.

Bonus Points

Existing user of OpenRouter, or active side projects in AI products/infrastructure or developer tooling.

Project Galileo: Since 2014, we've equipped more than 2,400 journalism and civil society organisations in 111 countries with powerful tools to defend themselves against attacks that would otherwise censor their work, technology already used by Cloudflare’s enterprise customers--at no cost.

Athenian Project: In 2017, we created the Athenian Project to ensure that state and local governments have the highest level of protection and reliability for free, so that their constituents have access to election information and voter registration.

Since the project, we've provided services to more than 425 local government election websites in 33 states.

1.1.1.1: We released 1.1.1.1 to help fix the foundation of the Internet by building a faster, more secure and privacy-centric public DNS resolver.

This is available publicly for everyone to use - it is the first consumer-focused service Cloudflare has ever released.

Here’s the deal - we don’t store client IP addresses never, ever.

We will continue to abide by our privacy commitment and ensure that no user data is sold to advertisers.

Staff Backend Engineer, Knowledge Graph (Rust)

As a Staff Backend Engineer on the GitLab Knowledge Graph team, you'll help design, scale, and operate a high-impact graph data service that underpins agents, analytics, and architecture-level features across GitLab.com, Dedicated, and Self-Managed deployments.

You'll partner with a small, senior Rust-first team to ship reliable graph capabilities and make them easy for other teams and agents to use. The Knowledge Graph service is a distributed SDLC indexing system. It builds a property graph from GitLab SDLC (software development lifecycle) and code data using ClickHouse, NATS JetStream, and the Data Insights Platform. It also exposes secure graph queries and MCP tools for AI agents and product features.

In this role, you'll own core parts of the system end to end: shaping the architecture, hardening multi-tenant behavior and performance, and making it straightforward for other teams and agents to consume graph capabilities. In your first year, you'll take clear ownership of major areas of the service (for example, the graph query engine, SDLC indexing, or multi-tenant authorization), reduce single points of failure through better runbooks and shared context, and raise the bar on how we design, build, and operate analytical services across the stack.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading the design and evolution of core Knowledge Graph services in a production Rust codebase, including the graph query engine, SDLC and code indexing pipelines, and API/MCP surfaces that other GitLab teams and AI agents rely on.

Owning complex, cross-cutting initiatives that span GitLab Rails, the Data Insights Platform (Siphon, NATS, ClickHouse), and GitLab Duo Agent Platform, from technical direction and design docs through implementation, rollout, and iteration.

Driving system design decisions that improve reliability, scalability, and maintainability for analytical (OLAP-style) graph workloads. This includes multi-hop traversals, aggregations, and multi-tenant isolation. Document trade-offs so the broader team can move quickly and stay aligned.

Defining and improving operational maturity for the service, including service level objectives (SLOs), observability, runbooks, incident response, capacity planning, and production readiness (PREP) for GitLab.com, Dedicated, and Self-Managed deployments.

Collaborating asynchronously with product, data, infrastructure, security, and AI teams to sequence work, unblock platform-level dependencies, and land features in a way that is safe for customers and sustainable for the team.

Applying AI-assisted development workflows responsibly (for example, using MCP-aware tools, Knowledge Graph-backed agents, and internal Duo tooling) and help establish practical norms for how the team uses AI while maintaining strong engineering judgment.

Mentoring and supporting other engineers through pairing, technical design reviews, and knowledge-sharing, reinforcing shared ownership of the system and its operational sustainability.

Contributing across the stack when needed, including occasional Ruby (Rails integration and authorization paths) or frontend work (for example, the Software Architecture Map UI) to close gaps and keep delivery moving.

This role requires significant experience building and operating production backend systems, with a track record of owning reliability, maintainability, and on-call readiness for services that support other product teams or platforms. Strong engineering skills in Rust or clear evidence you can ramp quickly and deliver in a Rust-first, performance-sensitive backend codebase are essential. Additionally, strong system design skills, including making and explaining clear architectural decisions, documenting constraints, and aligning trade-offs with product and platform needs, are necessary.

Intermediate Backend Engineer, SSCS: AI Governance

As an Intermediate Backend Engineer on the AI Governance team at GitLab, you'll help build a paid product designed for regulated enterprise organisations that need to audit, govern, and demonstrate compliance for AI agent usage inside GitLab.

This is product work with direct customer impact. You'll contribute to features that support visibility into how AI agents and related tools are used, and you'll help lay the foundation for governance controls that enterprise customers rely on.

You'll join a small team with clear product direction, technical guidance from experienced backend engineers, and meaningful ownership from the start.

This role is well suited for an engineer with experience in backend development who writes solid tests and wants to grow by shipping real features in an evolving product area.

You'll work in GitLab's all-remote, asynchronous environment, collaborating across teams as the AI Governance roadmap continues to expand.

Responsibilities:

Implement well-scoped backend features across the AI Governance product area, including event normalisation utilities, storage layer enhancements, API endpoint additions, export support, and registry integrations, delivering production-ready work that ships on schedule.

Build and maintain automated test coverage for your work using RSpec or equivalent tools to improve reliability and support safe, consistent releases.

Grow your knowledge of AI governance, agent-related product architecture, and integration patterns through hands-on delivery and teamwork so you can contribute more effectively as the roadmap evolves.

Work closely with senior and staff engineers to deliver solutions that are reliable, maintainable, and aligned with the product direction and release goals.

Work asynchronously with cross-functional partners and nearby engineering teams working on related governance and AI capabilities to help maintain smooth delivery across teams.

Take ownership of your scoped work and deliver with a high level of follow-through in a fast-moving product area, closing tasks with clear status updates and consistent execution.

Requirements:

Demonstrated backend development experience building and shipping production features.

Proficiency with Ruby on Rails and solid fundamentals in PostgreSQL.

Experience building and maintaining automated test coverage with RSpec or an equivalent testing framework.

Experience communicating clearly in writing with teammates in an async environment.

Demonstrated ability to drive scoped work through completion and follow through on commitments.

Experience with, or exposure to, audit event systems, telemetry pipelines, or compliance-focused tooling.

Experience learning new technical domains and applying that understanding to product development.

Additional experience with GraphQL APIs, event-driven architecture patterns, Python, or data-focused databases such as ClickHouse.

About the team:

You'll join the AI Governance team within GitLab's Secure, Scale, and Compliance area. We focus on helping organisations gain visibility into and govern AI usage inside GitLab.

Our work spans two broad problem spaces: visibility, such as audit events, usage tracking, and observability, and policy controls, such as controls that help protect projects and meet compliance requirements.

We are building this team alongside a parallel AI Governance team, with both groups contributing to different parts of a fast-changing roadmap.

You'll work with a distributed group of engineers and collaborate with adjacent AI and Continuous Delivery teams as we integrate governance capabilities more deeply into the platform.

It's an interesting team for engineers who want to work on emerging product challenges at the intersection of AI, compliance, and large-scale enterprise software.

Project Galileo: Since 2014, we've equipped more than 2,400 journalism and civil society organizations in 111 countries with powerful tools to defend themselves against attacks that would otherwise censor their work, technology already used by Cloudflare’s enterprise customers--at no cost.

We will continue to abide by our privacy commitment and ensure that no user data is sold to advertisers or used to target consumers.

Tech Lead (CI & Test Data Platform)

At Trunk, our mission is to help teams create high-quality software quickly. We've helped engineerings teams at Google X, Zillow, and Brex to understand why their builds fail, which tests are flaky, and how to ship code faster without sacrificing reliability. AI has made writing code 10x faster, but shipping is still painfully slow. The bottleneck has shifted downstream - to merge conflicts, flaky tests, inconsistent code quality, and dozens of other frictions that drain productivity and morale. Engineering teams that can stay focused on designing, implementing, and delivering software will build magical, high-quality projects - and they'll be happier doing it. We're building a CI Reliability Platform that empowers teams to land code faster and develop happier.

Our founders launched Trunk in 2021 after designing, delivering, and scaling software at Uber, Google, YouTube, and Microsoft. We raised a $25M Series A led by Initialized Capital (Garry Tan) and a16z (Peter Levine), with investments from Haystack Ventures, Garage VC, and the founders of GitHub (Tom Preston-Werner), Apollo GraphQL (Geoff Schmidt), Algolia (Nicolas Dessaigne), and Peopl.ai (Oleg Rogynsky).

CI pipelines are black boxes. Engineers waste hours debugging failures that turn out to be flaky tests or infrastructure noise. Trunk makes this visible: what failed, why, and whether it's worth fixing.

The next wave is agentic. AI tools today hit a wall when code leaves the local environment. We're building the data layer that lets AI agents actually reason about CI: diagnosing failures, suggesting fixes, and eventually shipping code autonomously.

We're looking for a Tech Lead to own the data platform that powers Trunk's flaky test detection and CI analytics products. You'll design and build the systems that ingest millions of test runs per hour, surface actionable insights, and lay the foundation for AI-driven CI workflows.

We're at an inflection point. The scale challenges are real and growing. The AI/agentic future of development tooling is taking shape, and we're building the data infrastructure that makes it possible. If you want to work on hard systems problems with direct customer impact, this is the role.

As a Tech Lead, you will:

Design and build the data pipelines, storage systems, and backend services that power Trunk's flaky test and CI products

Lead a team of engineers through complex distributed systems and data infrastructure challenges

Work directly with customers to understand their pain points and translate them into robust technical solutions

Drive architectural decisions for scale, reliability, and future AI/agentic integrations (MCP, semantic failure clustering, automated remediation)

Ship independently with high autonomy. We're a small team solving hard problems, and you'll have significant ownership

We're looking for someone with:

7+ years of backend/infrastructure engineering experience, with a focus on data processing pipelines and distributed systems

Experience leading teams of 2+ engineers on complex technical projects

Track record of building and operating systems at scale

Strong proficiency in Rust and Python; familiarity with TypeScript

Experience with our stack: PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, AWS, Kubernetes, Dagster

Comfort with monitoring, observability, and debugging in distributed environments

Previous experience at a high-growth startup

You're a good fit if:

You're passionate about building high-quality, scalable systems and take pride in clean, maintainable code

You have deep experience with distributed systems, databases, and performance optimization

You're comfortable navigating large codebases and can ramp quickly on complex systems

You enjoy mentoring engineers and thrive in collaborative environments

Experience and intuition to zero in on root causes for bugs that can leave others stumped

You're self-directed, making sound technical decisions without waiting for detailed specs

Our tech stack includes:

Frontend: Typescript, React, Next.js, AWS

Backend: Typescript, Node, AWS

Data pipelines: Dagster, python, polars

CI/CD: GitHub Actions

We offer:

Unlimited PTO

Competitive salary and equity

Work-life balance

Lunch ordered in on us at the office on Wednesdays and Thursdays

Few meetings, so you can ship fast and focus on building

One Medical membership on us!

Top-notch medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance

All insurance is 100% company-paid ($0 premiums) for employees and highly subsidized for dependents

FSA, HSA with company contributions, and pre-tax commuter benefits

401(k) plan

Paid parental leave (up to 12 weeks)

The salary and equity range for this role are: $200-$245K and .3-.5%.

Staff+ Software Engineer, Observability

About the Role

Anthropic is seeking talented and experienced Software Engineers to join our Observability team within the Infrastructure organisation. The Observability team owns the monitoring and telemetry infrastructure that every engineer and researcher at Anthropic depends on—from metrics and logging pipelines to distributed tracing, error analytics, alerting, and the dashboards and query interfaces that make it all actionable.

Responsibilities

Design and build scalable telemetry ingest and storage pipelines for metrics, logs, traces, and error data across Anthropic's multi-cluster infrastructure

Own and evolve core observability platforms, driving migrations and architectural improvements that improve reliability, reduce cost, and scale with organisational growth

Build instrumentation libraries, SDKs, and integrations that make it easy for engineering teams to emit high-quality telemetry from their services

Drive alerting and SLO infrastructure that enables teams to define, monitor, and respond to reliability targets with minimal noise

Reduce mean time to detection and resolution by building cross-signal correlation, unified query interfaces, and AI-assisted diagnostic tooling

Partner with Research, Inference, Product, and Infrastructure teams to ensure observability solutions meet the unique needs of each organisation

You May Be a Good Fit If You:

Have 10+ years of relevant industry experience building and operating large-scale observability or monitoring infrastructure

Have deep experience with at least one observability signal area (metrics, logging, tracing, or error analytics) and familiarity with the others

Understand high-throughput data pipelines, columnar storage engines, and the tradeoffs involved in ingesting and querying telemetry data at scale

Have experience operating or building on top of observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, ClickHouse, OpenTelemetry, or similar systems

Have strong proficiency in at least one of Python, Rust, or Go

Have excellent communication skills and enjoy partnering with internal teams to improve their operational visibility and incident response capabilities

Are excited about building foundational infrastructure and are comfortable working independently on ambiguous, high-impact technical challenges

Strong Candidates May Also Have:

Experience operating metrics systems at very high cardinality (hundreds of millions of active time series or more)

Experience with log storage migrations or operating columnar databases (ClickHouse, BigQuery, or similar) for analytics workloads

Experience with OpenTelemetry instrumentation, collector pipelines, and tail-based sampling strategies

Experience building or operating alerting platforms, on-call tooling, or SLO frameworks at scale

Experience with Kubernetes-native monitoring, eBPF-based observability, or continuous profiling

Interest in applying AI/LLMs to operational workflows such as automated root cause analysis, anomaly detection, or intelligent alerting

Logistics

Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.

We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work.

Your safety matters to us. To protect yourself from potential scams, remember that Anthropic recruiters only contact you from @anthropic.com email addresses.

Data Infrastructure Engineer

About the Role

Cursor ships daily. Every release leaves signals behind: telemetry, prompts, completions, agent runs, sessions. Those signals power model improvement, evals, and experimentation. Data infrastructure is what turns them into something teams can trust.

A lot of systems here started simple so we could move fast. Over time, the constraints change and the “good enough” version becomes the bottleneck. This role owns the full ladder: patch what should be patched, redesign what should be redesigned, ship the replacement, and operate it.

Privacy guarantees are part of correctness. What we can retain and use depends on Privacy Mode and org configuration, and getting that wrong breaks a product promise. We choose work by business impact: what blocks product and model teams today, and what will block them next month.

Sample projects include...

A core pipeline started as a pragmatic reuse of infrastructure built for something else. It works, but it cannot guarantee properties downstream consumers now need (for example, point-in-time consistency). You design and ship the replacement while keeping the existing system running.

A new product surface ships without instrumentation. You talk to the team, define what needs to be captured, and wire it through before the absence becomes anyone else’s problem.

Eval coverage drops. You trace it to an instrumentation gap introduced weeks ago by a product change nobody flagged. You fix the gap, add a contract so it cannot recur, and ship the dashboard that would have caught it earlier.

Multiple consumers depend on overlapping data. You design schema evolution and validation so changes in one place do not silently degrade the others.

Storage costs rise faster than usage. You decide what is worth keeping, implement retention and compression, and delete what is not.

What we're looking for

We’re looking for someone who has built real systems at scale and cares about correctness, cost, and ergonomics.

Strong signals include:

Deep experience with Spark (Databricks or open-source Spark both count)

Production experience with Ray Data

Hands-on ownership of large data pipelines and storage systems

Comfort debugging performance issues across client instrumentation, streaming, storage, and model-facing workflows, as well as, compute, storage, and networking layers

Clear thinking about data modeling and long-term maintainability

You have good judgment about when to patch and when to rebuild

Nice to have

Experience running or scaling ClickHouse

Familiarity with dbt, Dagster, or similar orchestration and modeling tools

We're in-person with cozy offices in North Beach, San Francisco and Manhattan, New York, replete with well-stocked libraries.
