<p>The ideal candidate has experience across design and manufacturing of precision machined components, setting up and maintaining production processes with an emphasis on quality, and high attention to detail. The ideal candidate also has hands-on experience with machining and programming parts, and ability to roll up their sleeves and do whatever it takes to get the job done.</p>
<p>Key responsibilities include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Working with design engineering teams to build quality into part designs and drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM), including participating in design reviews and performing tolerance stackup analysis.</li>
<li>Developing and qualifying manufacturing and inspection processes, including performing process validation, documenting procedures, and supporting processes in production.</li>
<li>Writing production procedures, work order templates, process specifications, and other build documents.</li>
<li>Working with supplier quality and contract manufacturers, to develop their manufacturing and quality processes and respond to questions and issues.</li>
<li>Evaluating non-conformances to determine root cause, create actionable items, and system improvements.</li>
<li>Owning scheduling and prioritization for machined part production and inspection, including working closely with other Astranis teams and management to understand company and project priorities.</li>
<li>Assisting in machining and programming operations as required for R&amp;D and production.</li>
<li>Creating, maintaining and communicating detailed schedules and status updates.</li>
<li>Assisting in designing and creating fixturing for production.</li>
</ul>
<p>Requirements include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor&#39;s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or equivalent technical degree.</li>
<li>5+ years of professional experience in CNC machining and programming.</li>
<li>Expert in GD&amp;T and drawing reviews.</li>
<li>Mechanical design experience including creating solid models and prints.</li>
<li>Must be onsite 5 days a week.</li>
</ul>
<p>Bonus skills include:</p>

<p>As part of a fast-paced prototype machining environment, you will work directly with design, manufacturing, and test engineers to bring early-stage concepts to life. Unlike traditional production roles, this position emphasizes adaptability, creativity, and speed.</p>
<p>You will routinely machine first-of-their-kind parts, refine processes in real time, and contribute to design decisions through hands-on feedback and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) insights.</p>
<p>Success in this role requires deep technical expertise in multi-axis CNC machining, along with the judgment to balance precision, efficiency, and urgency.</p>
<p>You will be expected to independently manage complex jobs from programming through final inspection, while also navigating shifting priorities and incomplete data.</p>
<p>The ability to problem-solve on the fly,whether addressing tolerance challenges, optimizing toolpaths, or developing quick-turn fixturing,is essential.</p>
<p>This role also carries a leadership component. As a Level 4 machinist, you will help set the standard for technical excellence on the shop floor, mentor less experienced team members, and contribute to building scalable prototype machining processes that support rapid product development.</p>

<p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Program, set up, and operate 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC machines for prototype and short-run parts</li>
<li>Develop and optimize CAM programs and G-code for speed, flexibility, and precision</li>
<li>Interpret CAD models, drawings, and GD&amp;T to determine optimal machining strategies</li>
<li>Collaborate directly with design engineers to provide DFM (Design for Manufacturability) feedback</li>
<li>Execute rapid iteration cycles, including same-day or next-day part turnaround when required</li>
<li>Design and implement quick-turn fixturing and workholding solutions</li>
<li>Troubleshoot machining challenges in real time (tooling issues, deflection, tolerance stack-ups)</li>
<li>Select appropriate cutting tools, feeds/speeds, and strategies for a wide range of materials</li>
<li>Support first article inspection and ensure parts meet design intent and quality standards</li>
<li>Document setups and processes while maintaining flexibility for evolving designs</li>
<li>Mentor junior machinists and help elevate team capability</li>
<li>Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and mission urgency</li>

<li>Ability to create, edit, and optimize G-code programs</li>
<li>Extensive experience with setup, fixturing, and workholding design</li>
<li>Proven troubleshooting skills for machining issues, tool wear, and process inefficiencies</li>
<li>Experience with quality inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, etc.)</li>
<li>Strong knowledge of safety standards and manufacturing best practices</li>
<li>Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple priorities</li>

<li>Exposure to automation systems (robotics, pallet pools, lights-out machining)</li>
