• Carry out work as directed by the No 1 Technician/Chief Technician, keeping them informed of any additional work necessary on a car during build or repair.
• Perform On-Event and workshop maintenance as required by No 1/Chief Technician, ensuring the car is always to the correct specification.
• Carry out other adhoc duties requested by the Team management.

Requirements:

• Previous rally experience with a strong ability to understand and interpret the build specification of a full car set up.
• Ability to follow build and operational procedures accurately.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Good attention to detail and a flexible approach.
• Preparedness to work overtime as dictated by the demands of the business.

This role will be based in our Assembly department, working with a team who are responsible for building motorsport and performance OEM brake components. The role requires the candidate to build components manually, working at a consistent work rate, ensuring that components are built to spec with no quality defects and in a timely manner.

Key Competencies

• Previous Assembly skills, preferably gained from working in a motorsport environment
• Ability to understand how braking systems work
• Must be able to read English manufacturing specs
• Can use hand assembly tools (torque wrenches etc) and use measuring equipment
• Ideally, the candidate would have experience working with a production engineering team, assisting in creating build specifications.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a similar environment.
• Good understanding of engineering materials.
• Gained a craft apprenticeship or a mechanical NVQ
• Good knowledge of fundamental engineering principles.

As an Engine Mechanic for the LMDh project at Hyundai Motorsport, you will be part of a high-performance team responsible for the assembly, maintenance, and optimization of hybrid power units used in our endurance racing program. This role requires precision, adaptability, and a deep understanding of both combustion and hybrid-electric systems in a motorsport environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assemble complete race engines (short block and top end) according to defined build specifications, drawings, and procedures.
• Measure, fit, and verify all critical engine components (bearings, pistons, valves, cams, crankshaft, etc.) using precision instruments.
• Maintain accurate build records and traceability documentation (torque logs, clearances, serial numbers, parts usage, etc.).
• Disassemble and inspect engines post-event or post-dyno for wear, damage, and component life tracking.
• Collaborate with design, development, and dyno teams to support continuous performance and reliability improvements.
• Identify and report potential assembly or quality issues, contributing to root cause analyses and countermeasures.
• Ensure cleanliness and organization of the build area in accordance with motorsport standards.
• Support dyno and test operations (installation, pre-start checks, post-test inspections).
• Occasionally travel to test or race events to provide engine support (if required).

Required Qualifications:

• Completed vocational training as an automotive or motorsport mechanic, or equivalent technical qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in high-performance engine assembly, preferably in endurance racing (LMDh, LMP, GT, or F1).
• Strong knowledge of internal combustion engines, hybrid systems, and associated electronics.
• Proficiency in using precision measurement tools and interpreting technical drawings.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Willingness to travel internationally for race and test events.

Preferred Skills:

• Comprehensive understanding of internal combustion engine architecture, tolerances, materials, and assembly techniques.
• Experience with high-precision measuring tools (micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, torque wrenches, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of component life management, wear analysis, and reliability tracking.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, build specifications, and assembly sheets.
• High commitment to quality, precision, and process consistency.

• Act as a mentor to less experienced team members, to ensure quality control while promoting positive learning environment.
