Early Years Practitioner

As an Early Years Practitioner, you'll help shape a child's first experiences of learning, friendship and play. You'll be part of a team that brings joy and support to children and their families every single day , creating safe, engaging spaces where every child is seen, supported and given the chance to flourish.

You'll join a close-knit, caring team, working with children aged 0–5 in one of our community nurseries. No two days look the same , you might be building a fort, comforting someone after a tough drop-off, or helping a child find the words to express how they're feeling.

You'll support the team in planning fun, engaging activities that help children learn through play, indoors and outside. You'll be hands-on throughout the day , changing nappies, preparing snacks, encouraging independence and celebrating every new milestone, however small.

You'll also be a key person for a small group of children, getting to know them and their families so you can respond to what they need , whether that's extra support, reassurance, or simply someone who remembers their favourite story.

Inclusivity is a big part of our nurseries. You'll help make sure every child, including those with additional needs, feels welcome, understood and able to take part in their own way.

To be successful in this role, you'll need a minimum Level 2 Childcare Qualification recognised by the Department for Education , and ideally some experience working in an early years setting. More than anything, we're looking for someone who brings warmth, patience and energy to the role.

You'll be great at working in a team, open to learning and ready to adapt to what each day brings. You'll also be confident building relationships with parents and carers , listening, sharing updates and working together to support each child.

It's essential that you have a good understanding of child development, especially for two-year-olds and vulnerable groups and are familiar with the EYFS and safeguarding guidance. A DBS check and First Aid training (or willingness to complete it) are essential.

As an Early Years Practitioner, you'll have plenty of opportunities to learn and grow, with access to regular training and support to help you develop your skills or take on new responsibilities.

Principal Flood and Water Management Officer

Protect our local communities from flood risk and shape a safer, more resilient environment across our borough.

As our Principal Flood and Water Management Officer, you’ll lead our local flood risk strategy and deliver innovative water management projects across Kensington and Chelsea. It’s a role with real community impact – a chance to combine technical expertise with local leadership to safeguard homes, businesses and iconic London places.

You’ll be based in the Borough for two or three days a week in a hybrid setup, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you’re working in the office, on-site or collaborating with partners, you’ll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents’ lives.

Your focus will be managing the Council’s statutory duties as a Lead Local Flood Authority under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010. A central part of your day-to-day role will involve reviewing major planning applications and providing clear, technically robust drainage advice to ensure new developments manage surface water and flood risk effectively. You’ll also maintain and update our planning policies, local flood risk management strategies and flood hazard mapping to keep our policy framework robust and forward-looking.

Beyond policy and planning, you’ll oversee and progress strategic flood mitigation schemes across the borough. You’ll step straight into delivering innovative flood resilience solutions along Portobello Road and contributing to high-profile initiatives such as the Natural History Museum Gardens. This will mean building strong, collaborative relationships with external consultants, Thames Water, the Environment Agency and internal council teams.

Engaging directly with residents and local communities affected by flooding is central to everything you do. You’ll make sure our solutions are practical, transparent and grounded in genuine resident experience, giving people confidence that their homes and neighbourhoods are protected.

You’ll bring a degree in planning, engineering, environmental science or a related discipline, alongside membership or chartered status with the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) or an equivalent professional body. You have substantial experience working at a principal or senior level within local government or private consultancy, giving you a thorough understanding of Lead Local Flood Authority duties, planning policy and surface water management.

You’re skilled in evaluating site-specific flood risk assessments, managing complex procurement processes and securing vital grant funding from government bodies and partner organisations like Thames Water. You’re exceptionally well-organised, comfortable balancing a high volume of work, and adept at keeping complex projects moving forward.

Above all, you’re an excellent communicator who knows how to translate technical information into clear advice and excel at collaborating across departments. You bring empathy, resilience and a genuine commitment to working alongside local residents to build long-term flood resilience.

At RBKC, we’re all in – investing in our people, our communities and our future.

This position offers a high degree of autonomy, giving you the space to shape priorities, direct well-resourced initiatives and see the direct impact of your decisions on the ground. You’ll lead on nationally recognised, high-profile projects in iconic London locations, working alongside supportive colleagues who value collaboration and practical action.

We will invest in your continuous professional development, offering flexible hybrid working and a supportive, team-oriented culture where your expertise is valued and your leadership can drive genuine change.

Adult Social Care Financial Services Lead

As our Adult Social Care Client Financial Services Lead, you’ll oversee the essential financial services that safeguard our most vulnerable residents. It’s a role with genuine, community-wide impact – a chance to lead dedicated specialist teams, champion fair practice and make sure vital support is delivered with compassion and integrity right across the borough.

Your focus will be providing clear, professional and operational leadership across our client financial functions, ensuring our work is fair, accurate and fully compliant with statutory standards. Managing a team of specialist service managers and staff, you’ll oversee financial assessments, direct payments, client affairs, care and protection, supplier payments and public health funerals, making sure these vital services run smoothly and consistently every day.

A key part of your role will involve acting as our trusted subject-matter expert and primary liaison between Adult Social Care, Finance, Legal and external partners such as the Court of Protection, the Office of the Public Guardian and the Department for Work and Pensions. You’ll lead on implementing audit recommendations, embedding quality assurance frameworks across our work and supporting corporate transformation programmes locally. Working across organisational boundaries, you’ll manage operational budgets, build service resilience and collaborate closely with senior colleagues across two councils to achieve positive, resident-focused outcomes.

You possess an in-depth understanding of care charging, financial assessments, deputyship, appointeeship, direct payments, supplier payments and public health funerals, alongside the statutory and technical knowledge needed to lead these services confidently from day one.

You’re an experienced, supportive leader who knows how to guide, motivate and develop specialist teams through operational managers. Your analytical skills enable you to exercise sound, objective judgement when resolving contentious casework involving complex legal, safeguarding or financial risks. You’re also an exceptional communicator – someone who can translate complex statutory requirements into transparent procedures and build constructive, collaborative relationships across multidisciplinary teams and partner organisations.

This role offers exceptional breadth, influence and professional autonomy. You’ll lead specialist services that support Adult Social Care teams recognised by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as Outstanding in Kensington and Chelsea and Good in Westminster. Following the retirement of a long-standing colleague, you’ll step into an experienced, dedicated team with the real opportunity to shape the future direction of the service, working alongside the Head of Service to review our management structure so it continues to provide strong leadership and clear accountability.

Resident Financial Support Manager

As our Financial Support Manager, you’ll lead the front-line services that help our residents navigate hardship and access dependable crisis assistance. When people face financial difficulties, receiving prompt, fair and compassionate support makes all the difference. In this role, you’ll guide a dedicated team to deliver well-managed support, ensuring our safety net remains accessible, dignified and robust.

Your focus will be providing visible, hands-on leadership across our Resident Financial Support services, overseeing vital provision including Crisis Payments, Home Start Essentials, Local Support Payments for Westminster City Council and other local welfare provision. Managing an established, experienced front-line team alongside newer colleagues, you’ll set clear standards, balance daily workloads and create an environment where staff feel supported to do their best work. You will not just manage from behind a desk; when demand peaks or complex cases arise, you’ll step directly into operational delivery, and resolve escalations and ensure our decisions are fair, consistent and defensible.

A major priority will be leading the operational roll-out of our new Crisis Payments scheme while integrating elements of the Crisis Resilience Fund. You’ll connect application-based emergency support with broader financial resilience services, using demand insight to smooth customer journeys so residents receive joined-up help when they need it most. Working closely with internal departments, external partners and suppliers, you’ll ensure local support reaches residents promptly, equitably and transparently.

Beyond everyday service delivery, you’ll manage support fund budgets, maintaining strong financial control, governance and risk mitigation. You’ll interrogate performance data, management information and reporting tools such as Excel and Power BI to spot emerging community needs and track service outcomes. Working closely with the Head of Financial Support and Improvement, you’ll use these findings to inform policy reviews, modernise digital systems and contribute to wider transformation and efficiency priorities across Finance and Assurance.

You’ll bring proven operational management experience from a front-line or customer-focused public service environment, with the skills to lead, motivate and develop a dedicated team through periods of change. You understand the realities of financial hardship and combine an empathetic, person-centred approach with the sound judgement required to make fair, defensible decisions on complex and sensitive cases. A strong working knowledge of welfare benefits, discretionary support schemes and related regulations is essential, alongside demonstrable experience of managing public funding streams within agreed budgetary limits.

This role offers the chance to lead essential front-line support where you can see the direct, lasting impact of your work as residents build stability and resilience. You’ll join a collaborative, supportive team with clear backing from senior leaders and opportunities to contribute to high-profile transformation projects across Finance and Assurance.

We will invest substantially in your professional development, offering continuous learning opportunities, leadership training and the chance to lead with confidence. Alongside a competitive salary, generous annual leave entitlement and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, you’ll benefit from a flexible hybrid working pattern and comprehensive wellbeing initiatives designed to help you thrive.
