Engineer Manager - ML Data and Evaluation, Self-Driving Systems

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to own the data and evaluation layer that powers our E2E autonomy models. This role covers what the industry typically staffs as separate orgs: data enrichment and autolabeling, dataset curation and corpus management, evaluation and metrics infrastructure, and the closed-loop systems that connect on-road performance back to training.

As an Engineering Manager, you will be hands-on in the technical decisions and close enough to the models to know when something is off. You will own data enrichment: the ML pipelines that produce semantic labels, object annotations, behavior tags, and derived features at petabyte scale across cameras, lidar, and radar. Ensure enrichment quality keeps pace with model requirements as they evolve.

You will build the curation and corpus management systems: distribution analysis, targeted mining for long-tail scenarios, embedding-based data selection, scenario diversity and geographic balance enforcement. You will own evaluation from offboard metrics to on-road driving quality. Define the metrics, benchmarks, and regression tests that determine whether a model ships. Close the sim-to-real gap. Build 'eval of eval' tooling to measure and improve the evaluation system itself.

You will recruit, develop, and technically lead the team. Build a culture of rigor on a safety-critical system.

This role requires 5+ years building ML or data systems for robotics or production software systems, 2+ years managing or technically leading engineering teams, experience with large-scale data pipelines: ingestion, curation, and processing of large-scale multi-modal sensor data, experience reasoning about dataset composition, distribution balance, and corpus-level quality, and strong software engineering in Python; comfort with C++ and distributed systems.

Exposure to or curiosity about multi-domain defense systems

Strong CS/CE/EE (or similar) foundation; you think rigorously about correctness and performance

Python proficiency for tooling, scripting, and integration work

Thrives in ambiguity & comfortable driving clarity and progress in fast-moving, high-stakes environments

Excellent communication skills; you can explain hard technical tradeoffs to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders

Security Requirements:

Must be a U.S. Citizen

Must hold or be eligible for a U.S. Secret security clearance

Compensation:

Compensation at Applied Intuition for eligible roles includes base salary, equity, and benefits. Base salary is a single component of the total compensation package, which may also include equity in the form of options and/or restricted stock units, comprehensive health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance coverage, 401k retirement benefits with employer match, learning and wellness stipends, and paid time off. Note that benefits are subject to change and may vary based on jurisdiction of employment.

Pay Transparency:

For pay transparency purposes, the base salary range for this full-time position in the location listed is: $150,000 - $200,000 USD annually.

About the role:

Applied Intuition is building a new Forward Deployed Engineering team in Munich , the first of its kind in our EMEA organization. As a founding FDE, you won't just fill a role: you'll help define what great looks like for this function.

FDEs are our most technical, highest-ownership engineers embedded directly inside our most strategic customers , tier-1 automotive OEMs and suppliers across the EMEA region and beyond. You operate at the intersection of core product engineering and customer delivery: you write and ship net-new features, build standalone applications, and solve the hardest technical problems that exist at the boundary between Applied's platform and the customer's environment.

This is not a support or customer success role. You spend the majority of your time building , coding production-quality software, designing system architectures, and delivering working products inside customer environments. You bring field signals back to Applied's product and engineering teams, directly shaping the roadmap.

Responsibilities:

Own end-to-end delivery: from initial problem framing and technical scoping through architecture, implementation, and production rollout inside customer environments.

Ship production software: build net-new features, standalone applications, and integrations that solve real customer problems (examples: scenario tooling, data pipeline applications, evaluation frameworks, custom simulation workflows).

Embedded with customers: work side-by-side with customer engineering and domain teams at their sites; understand their technical constraints, debug complex issues, and ensure successful outcomes.

Bridge the product gap: identify where Applied's platform falls short of customer needs, build custom solutions that fill those gaps, and feed concrete requirements back to product and engineering.

Set the bar: as a founding member, codify deployment patterns, build internal playbooks, and help shape how the FDE function operates across EMEA.

Travel regularly: expected 25–40% on-site at customer locations across Germany and EMEA.

What we're looking for:

Must have:

4+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong track record of shipping production code

Full-stack development skills , comfortable across backend, API layer, and frontend as needed

Experience working directly with customers in high-stakes, technical environments (FDE, embedded engineering, deep technical consulting, or customer-facing SWE roles)

Ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous situations , you define the path forward, you don't wait for one

Strong English communication skills; ability to engage confidently with both engineers and senior stakeholders

Strongly preferred:

Experience in autonomy, robotics, simulation, or automotive software (ROS, C++, Python, sensor pipelines, or related)

Experience at a company known for forward-deployed or embedded engineering models

Nice to have:

Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)

Exposure to automotive certification or homologation processes

Prior work at an early-stage team where you helped define processes from scratch

Compensation:

Compensation at Applied Intuition for eligible roles includes base salary, equity, and benefits. Base salary is a single component of the total compensation package, which may also include equity, comprehensive health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance coverage, learning and wellness stipends, and paid time off. Note that benefits are subject to change and may vary based on jurisdiction of employment.

Applied Intuition pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum intended target base salary for new hire salaries for the position. The actual base salary offered to a successful candidate will additionally be influenced by a variety of factors including experience, credentials & certifications, educational attainment, skill level requirements, interview performance, and the level and scope of the position.

Technical Lead Manager - Perception, Self-Driving Systems

About the role

Applied Intuition builds the software infrastructure for autonomous vehicles across passenger cars, trucking, mining, and defense. Our Self-Driving Systems (SDS) team develops production-grade autonomy stacks deployed on real vehicles across multiple continents.

We are looking for a Technical Lead Manager to own the perception model at the core of our autonomy stack. This is a single combined model: shared backbone, multi-task heads, serving every SDS program from the same codebase. The same model runs on a passenger car in Los Angeles, a truck in rural Japan, and an offroad vehicle in the Philippines. Different sensor configurations, different road geometries, different weather distributions, one model.

You will lead the team that trains, evaluates, and ships this model, and you will be hands-on in the architecture and training decisions that drive its performance.

Responsibilities

Own the perception model end-to-end: architecture, training, evaluation, and deployment. The core challenge is building a model that generalizes across geographies, road types, sensor setups, and environmental conditions without per-vertical forks.

Drive a camera-first perception strategy. The goal is to progressively reduce dependencies on HD maps and lidar. How to get there is part of the job.

Lead training and iteration cycles hands-on. You will be in the data, the eval dashboards, and the failure analysis. When perception regresses in a new geography or road type, you own understanding why and fixing it.

Own model performance across the full deployment surface: highway, urban, residential, ramps, complex intersections, poor weather, hilly terrain. You care about on-vehicle driving outcomes, not just offline metrics.

Manage the model lifecycle from training through quantization and deployment on embedded compute, including device-specific optimizations. Close the gap between what the model does offboard and what it does on the vehicle.

Work directly with OEM customer programs to understand sensor configurations, target ODDs, and performance requirements. Translate these into model architecture and data strategy.

Recruit, develop, and technically lead a team of perception engineers. Set high technical standards and create a culture of rigorous experimentation and measurement.

Requirements

5+ years in ML/deep learning for perception or 3D scene understanding. Deep hands-on experience training and deploying vision models at scale.

2+ years managing or technically leading a perception team, with ability to both set direction and contribute to architecture and training decisions directly.

Experience building production perception systems, especially camera-only or camera-first solutions.

Track record deploying perception models to embedded hardware under real-time latency and compute constraints, including device-specific optimizations.

Strong software engineering in Python and C++, comfortable across the stack from training code to onboard inference integration.

Experience scaling perception models across multiple geographies, sensor setups, or vehicle platforms.

Nice to have

Deep familiarity with transformer-based architectures for 3D perception, BEV representations, multi-task learning, and dense prediction.

Familiarity with occupancy-based scene representations, sparse query-based architectures, or temporal aggregation approaches.

Experience reducing or removing map dependencies in perception systems.

Background in autolabel pipelines, data quality monitoring, or data flywheel design for perception.

Experience with closed-loop simulation for perception model evaluation (neural sim, log sim, scenario-based testing).

Experience at an AV company that has shipped perception to production.

Engineering Manager - ML, Self-Driving Systems

About the role

Applied Intuition builds software infrastructure for autonomous vehicles across passenger cars, trucking, mining, and defence. Our Self-Driving Systems (SDS) team develops production-grade autonomy stacks deployed on real vehicles across multiple continents.

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead ML teams within SDS Core. This is a large organisation spanning perception model development, agent prediction, E2E driving models, ML engineering infrastructure, and the offboard training pipelines that power them.

Your teams will train models, iterate on architecture and data, run simulation and on-road experiments, and ship into production vehicles on timelines measured in months. The same model architecture must serve L2 ADAS, L4 trucking, and mining from a common codebase, while meeting the distinct safety and performance requirements of each.

At Applied Intuition, you will:

Set the technical direction across multiple ML workstreams: the foundation model, shared backbone, and task heads that enable end-to-end driving, plus agent prediction and model optimisation.

Lead rapid training and iteration cycles across your teams. Models ship into production vehicles on quarterly release cycles with direct impact on customer programmes.

Work directly with OEM customers and programme teams to translate vehicle platform constraints into model architecture and delivery plans.

Own the offboard ML pipelines that determine iteration speed: training infrastructure, data curation, autolabel quality, and the evaluation systems that connect offboard metrics to on-vehicle driving outcomes.

Manage the full model lifecycle from prototype to embedded deployment, including training at scale, quantisation, and device-specific optimisations.

Recruit, develop, and retain strong engineers in a competitive market.

5+ years in deep learning. Hands-on experience guiding teams in state-of-the-art ML development and deployment.

Experience building ML training pipelines at scale: data management, distributed training, experiment tracking, model evaluation.

Track record deploying ML models to embedded or edge hardware, including quantisation, pruning, and device-specific optimisations.

Strong software engineering in Python and C++, comfortable across the full stack from training code to onboard inference.

Multi-domain ML development: training one model architecture across different sensor configs, vehicle types, or geographies.

Experience at an AV company that has shipped autonomy to production.
