Staff Software Engineer - Test Systems & Tooling

Job Description

Temporal is an open source programming model that can simplify code, make applications more reliable, and help developers focus on the important things like delivering features faster. We are on a mission to be the reliable foundation of every developer’s toolbox, and are building the team that will make that happen.

Summary

Temporal’s reliability is foundational to our value proposition, and as more customers run mission-critical workloads on Temporal, we need the ability to validate changes under production-like conditions and realistic failure modes before they reach production.

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Test Systems & Tooling team, you will lead technical initiatives that make sophisticated system-level testing practical across Engineering, spanning production-representative environments, workload replay/generation, and repeatable failure-mode testing. You’ll build platforms and tooling that enable teams to reproduce and prevent the kinds of issues that only emerge from complex interactions between workload, scale, configuration, and multi-tenant behavior.

Responsibilities

Build production-like test environments: Design and evolve tooling that makes it easy for engineers to spin up test cells that resemble production topology, configuration, and behavior, in partnership with Cloud/Infrastructure.

Enable production-representative workloads: Build capabilities for workload generation, multi-tenant testing, stress/load testing, and (where appropriate) traffic replay or replay-like systems to reproduce production behaviors in controlled environments.

Make failure-mode testing repeatable: Create tooling for injecting and validating failure conditions (latency, dependency faults, resource exhaustion, degraded-state recovery, and region-level failure scenarios) so we test them deliberately, not just learn from production.

Drive system-level test coverage: Identify high-impact system-level scenarios that are currently hard to test, and implement (or partner with the right teams to implement) repeatable coverage that’s incorporated into continuous and/or release validation.

Build shared frameworks and paved paths: Provide opinionated libraries, harnesses, and patterns that make it easier for product teams to write high-quality system and integration tests consistently.

Raise the technical bar through leadership: Mentor engineers and influence testing strategy across the org through design docs, code reviews, and cross-team collaboration.

Partner across Engineering: Work closely with Reliability and Release Engineering to turn incident learnings into durable pre-production test coverage and to integrate validations into the release pipeline.

Requirements

Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building and operating production-quality systems (platforms, infrastructure, developer tooling, or distributed systems).

Demonstrated technical leadership: leading ambiguous, cross-team initiatives; driving alignment; and delivering durable systems that other teams rely on.

Experience designing for observability, debuggability, and operational readiness (metrics, logs, tracing, safe rollouts, and failure analysis).

Comfort working across organizational boundaries, collaborating with Cloud/Infrastructure, Reliability, Release Engineering, and product teams to land outcomes.

Strong written communication skills (design docs, testing strategy proposals, and documentation that scales adoption).

Nice to Haves

Experience with chaos engineering, fault injection, workload replay/shadowing, performance testing, or multi-tenant test strategy.

Experience building internal platforms used broadly across an engineering org (paved roads, self-serve environments, shared frameworks).

Familiarity with measuring engineering/system outcomes (e.g., signal quality, coverage gaps closed, incident-to-coverage time, adoption).

Compensation

The estimated pay range for this role is $212,000 - $278,250 depending on experience and location.

Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Temporal's equity plan.

Benefits

Unlimited PTO, 12 Holidays + 2 Floating Holidays

100% Premiums Coverage for Medical, Dental, and Vision

AD&D, LT & ST Disability, and Life Insurance (Standard & Supplemental Available)

Empower 401K Plan

Additional Perks for Learning & Development, Lifestyle Spending, Home Office Setup, Professional Memberships, WFH Meals, Internet Stipend and more!

You will partner with engineering teams to deliver customer-facing capabilities and shape internal operational systems for namespace placement, provisioning, capacity management, and more.

Responsibilities

Own the full Cloud Namespace lifecycle for an operator using Temporal Cloud: understanding workload needs, provisioning and management flows, defining the right configuration defaults and policies, updates-in-place, and safe deletion.

Define and evolve differentiated Namespace offerings that are easy for customers to understand and trust.

Own throughput and capacity management for Namespaces, including autoscaling, TRUs, reserved vs. elastic capacity, scheduling, visibility, limits, and quotas.

Drive operational policy and features to deliver highly performant, reliable, and cost-effective service at massive multi-tenant scale.

Define and own Namespace SLOs and SLAs, including instrumentation and customer-facing communication of performance and reliability expectations.

Own the Namespace APIs & configuration used by customer automation, the Temporal Cloud UI, and other products and services.

Requirements

Product leadership experience shipping and operating platform/infrastructure products, especially where reliability, performance, and cost tradeoffs matter.

Strong systems thinking: ability to translate workload needs into tiering, pricing, policy, quotas/limits, and defaults that scale across many customers.

Comfort partnering closely with engineering on technical topics like autoscaling, capacity planning, rolling deployment and placement logic, and resilience patterns.

Experience defining and managing SLOs/SLAs and using metrics to drive product decisions and prioritization.

Ability to build alignment across stakeholders and make clear, durable decisions in ambiguous environments.

Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to produce crisp PRDs, decision docs, and customer-facing explanations.

Nice to Haves

Experience with multi-tenant systems, workload isolation, and “noisy neighbor” mitigation.

Familiarity with API product design for long-lived resource lifecycle operations and safe evolution over time.

Background working on placement, routing, data residency, or geo-distributed reliability problems.

Experience building pricing/packaging inputs for tiered services in partnership with Finance/GTM.

Compensation

The estimated salary range for this role is $185,000 - $260,000, based on experience and location.

Summary

Temporal is hiring a Director, Global Developer Success to lead and scale our deeply technical support organization. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for turning customer technical response into a repeatable, measurable, and differentiated advantage for Temporal.

Build and lead Global Developer Success: Hire, coach, develop, retain, and performance-manage high-performing support engineers, managers, and specialists across tiers, regions, and customer segments.

Create the support operating system: Define SLAs/OLAs, ticket and Slack triage, queue ownership, severity definitions, tiering, escalation paths, incident communications, RCA standards, quality review, staffing, and operating cadence.

Raise the quality bar: Move beyond CSAT alone by measuring customer effort, touches to resolution, reopen rate, handoffs, recurrence, communication quality, resolution confidence, and customer-visible ownership.

Harden Slack and customer response: Turn premium Slack response into a defined service model with acknowledgement standards, urgent paths, conversion-to-ticket rules, coverage model, manager review, and customer-facing expectations.

Protect Engineering focus through better support: Reduce avoidable escalations by building runbooks, diagnostics, knowledge systems, reproducibility standards, technical triage, and high-quality escalation packets.

Lead escalation and incident discipline: Establish crisp roles for technical lead, escalation manager, communications owner, Support, Engineering, SA, Platform Architecture, and Sales.

Build technical depth and enablement: Create career paths, training, mentorship, certification, quality review, and hands-on learning that help junior engineers become senior/staff support engineers and help senior engineers scale their expertise.

Partner across the company: Work closely with Product, Engineering, Sales, Solutions Architecture, Platform Architecture, Customer Success, Docs, DevRel, and Services to ensure support signal turns into product, documentation, enablement, and customer lifecycle improvements.

Use tooling and AI pragmatically: Improve routing, deflection, summaries, analytics, knowledge surfacing, diagnostics, and customer communication while measuring real operating outcomes rather than tool adoption alone.

Represent Temporal with customers: Engage directly in strategic escalations, high-stakes incidents, enterprise support conversations, QBR/EBR inputs, and executive readouts when support experience affects customer trust.

What you will bring

12+ years of experience in technical support, customer engineering, SRE, solutions engineering, infrastructure engineering, or similar customer-facing technical roles, with 5+ years leading support or customer-facing engineering teams.

Proven experience building and scaling technical support operations for a deeply technical B2B product, ideally in developer tools, cloud infrastructure, data platforms, observability, AI infrastructure, open source, or distributed systems within a GTM organization.

Experience managing managers and building the systems that make teams run: metrics, operating cadence, queue management, quality review, staffing models, tiering, escalation paths, and performance management.

Strong technical credibility with developers, support engineers, SREs, platform engineers, and product engineers.

Track record reducing avoidable Engineering escalations while improving the quality of product and engineering signal when escalations are needed.

Deep understanding of support quality metrics: response time, resolution time, customer effort, touches, reopens, recurrence, backlog, SLA/OLA attainment, deflection, CSAT, sentiment, and case quality.

Strong customer communication skills in high-pressure situations.

Clear philosophy for hiring, onboarding, leveling, progression, coaching, retention, and performance management for technical support engineers and support managers.

High ownership and builder mindset.

Compensation

The estimated pay range for this role is $220,000 - $270,000 based on experience and location.

Equity Options - Eligible for stock options as part of Temporal's equity plan.

U.S. Benefits - Unlimited PTO, 12 Holidays + 2 Floating Holidays, 100% Premiums Coverage for Medical, Dental, and Vision, AD&D, LT & ST Disability, and Life Insurance, Empower 401K Plan, Additional Perks for Learning & Development, Lifestyle Spending, Home Office Setup, Professional Memberships, WFH Meals, Internet Stipend and more!

Senior Developer Advocate, Developer Education

Job Description

Temporal is an open source programming model that can simplify code, make applications more reliable, and help developers focus on the important things like delivering features faster. We are on a mission to be the reliable foundation of every developer’s toolbox, and are building the team that will make that happen.

Summary

Durable execution changes how you build software. It makes applications reliable by default, but it's a genuinely new way to think, so most developers meet it with a lot of questions. Developer Education exists to answer them. We take a developer from their first "what is this?" to running production-grade Temporal applications, along a guided journey that gets them hands-on from the first step. We treat education as a product, not a side project. It's a serious, resourced effort to build something that can genuinely move the business.

You'll help build the platform behind it and shape where it goes, not just create content to fill it. You'll work within real technology constraints, but with plenty of room to get creative. We're building that journey now: exercise-first courses, video, and AI-assisted learning that meets developers the way they actually work. AI runs through both how we teach and what we teach. Durable execution is fast becoming the backbone for reliable AI agents, and we're building the content that shows developers how.

As a Senior Developer Advocate on the team, you're a strong engineer who teaches through working code and through story. Great teaching carries someone from confusion to understanding, and you turn hard distributed-systems ideas into experiences that click. You'll also partner across Developer Relations, Product, Engineering, Solutions Architecture, Sales, and Marketing to help developers succeed with Temporal.

Responsibilities

Help shape the education platform and the direction of the learning experience, not just the content that fills it

Design and build exercise-first courses, tutorials, and labs where a working, hands-on example is the core, with video, guides, and learning paths built around it

Produce video education content, including long-form walkthroughs and short-form "aha moment" clips

Build hands-on AI and agent content, including durable AI agent examples that show how Temporal underpins reliable AI systems

Design learning experiences that reflect modern developer workflows, including AI-assisted, hybrid, and interactive formats

Keep educational materials aligned with current product capabilities and recommended architectural patterns

Build and maintain reference implementations, labs, and best-practices examples for common developer and enterprise scenarios, in one or more Temporal SDK languages

Occasionally represent education in person: staffing a booth at a conference or event, and now and then standing up to teach a group directly, through a workshop, a training session, or a talk.

Partner with enterprise-facing teams (Solutions Architecture, Sales, Field Marketing, Developer Success) to turn their needs into reusable educational assets such as workshops, deep dives, and enablement material that scale beyond a single customer rather than one-off engagements

Help run trainer certification and developer certification programs by supporting competency definitions, assessment creation, and iteration based on feedback

Collect and share developer feedback from trainings, events, and community channels, and share actionable insights with Product and Engineering to improve education strategy and product direction

Requirements

Senior Finance Manager, GTM

We are seeking a highly analytical, execution-oriented Senior Finance Manager to own revenue forecasting and financial modeling for a consumption-based, high-growth business. This role is critical to how we understand, predict, and scale revenue in a usage-driven model where accuracy, iteration speed, and judgment under uncertainty matter.

The person in this seat must be deeply hands-on in Excel / Google Sheets, capable of building and rebuilding complex forecasting models, and comfortable iterating daily as new data, usage patterns, and GTM motions evolve.

Responsibilities:

Revenue Forecasting in a Consumption Model

Own the end-to-end revenue forecast for consumption-based products, including short-term (weekly/monthly) and long-range (quarterly/annual) views.

Build and maintain bottoms-up forecasting models that incorporate usage drivers, customer cohorts, ramp curves, contract structures (committed vs. PAYG), and expansion behavior.

Partner closely with Data Science to align financial forecasts with statistical consumption models, usage signals, and predictive outputs.

Continuously refine forecasts based on actuals, usage trends, pipeline changes, and GTM performance - iteration speed and accuracy are core expectations.

Deeply Hands-On With Financial Modeling

Develop and maintain highly detailed financial models in Google Sheets and Excel; this role requires expert-level proficiency.

Translate outputs from data science models into clear financial assumptions, scenarios, and executive-ready forecasts.

Perform scenario analysis, sensitivity analysis, and stress-testing to inform pricing, packaging, and GTM strategy.

Translate ambiguous or incomplete data into structured assumptions and clearly documented models.

Partner Closely With GTM, RevOps, and Data

Work directly with Sales, RevOps, and GTM leadership to connect pipeline, bookings, usage, and revenue outcomes.

Collaborate tightly with Data Science to evaluate forecast accuracy, diagnose variance, and improve model signal over time.

Analyze ARR vs. consumption dynamics, net dollar retention, expansion behavior, and usage efficiency by segment and customer cohort.

Support forecasting for new GTM motions, pricing changes, and product launches.

Lead headcount and tooling investment planning, partnering with functional leaders to translate growth plans into hiring roadmaps, tooling needs, and expense forecasts.

Operate Effectively in a Hypergrowth Environment

Support a business that is scaling rapidly, where historical data is imperfect and judgment matters.

Help design forecasting processes that combine data-driven rigor with financial intuition and can scale over time.

Prepare materials and insights for QBRs, executive reviews, and board discussions, with a focus on revenue predictability, risk, and forecast confidence.

Cross-Functional Financial Leadership

Partner with Accounting on revenue recognition considerations and variance analysis tied to usage-based billing.

Support annual planning, rolling forecasts, and budget updates with a heavy emphasis on revenue accuracy.

Proactively identify risks and opportunities in the revenue model and communicate them clearly to leadership.

Requirements:

6-10 years of relevant experience, with early career training in one or more of the following: Investment Banking, Private Equity or Venture Capital, Revenue-focused FP&A or Strategic Finance at a high-growth technology company.

Direct experience forecasting consumption-based or usage-driven revenue is strongly preferred.

Experience operating in a hypergrowth environment (rapid customer growth, evolving GTM motion, limited historical data).

Expert-level Excel and Google Sheets skills; must be able to independently build complex, multi-layered financial models.

Strong understanding of revenue forecasting mechanics, cohort analysis, ramp modeling, and expansion dynamics.

Comfort partnering closely with Data Science and Analytics teams, translating model outputs into financial forecasts and decisions.

Ability to evaluate model performance, understand drivers of forecast error, and iterate assumptions accordingly.

Highly iterative and action-oriented; comfortable revising forecasts frequently as new information becomes available.

Strong judgment under uncertainty; able to make and defend assumptions when data is incomplete or signals conflict.

Direct, clear communicator who can explain complex financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders.

High ownership mentality with a bias toward accountability and results.

Nice to Have:

Experience with SaaS and cloud metrics (NDR, usage efficiency, margin by product, CAC payback, LTV).

Familiarity with tools such as NetSuite, Salesforce, Snowflake, or modern BI platforms.

Prior experience working closely with Data Science teams on forecasting or predictive modeling.

MBA or CFA is preferred, but not required.

Senior Software Engineer, Compute (Temporal Cloud)

About Us

Temporal is an open source programming model that can simplify code, make applications more reliable, and help developers focus on the important things like delivering features faster.

We are on a mission to be the reliable foundation of every developer’s toolbox, and are building the team that will make that happen. Our values guide us , they are present in how we show up, make decisions, and work together to make an impact. We’re curious, driven, collaborative, genuine and humble.

Temporal is growing and we are looking for those who share our values, challenge 'standard' thinking, and want to influence our future. If you have a passion for improving the developer experience, building world-class open-source software and communities, and want to be a part of our amazing team, we'd love to hear from you!

Senior Software Engineer, Compute (Temporal Cloud)

Temporal powers durable execution for the world’s most demanding AI and enterprise systems. The Compute team at Temporal makes that durability feel effortless by building the managed compute primitives that run workers and other execution systems across Temporal Cloud.

We’re solving a hard platform problem: make compute transparent, elastic, safe-by-default, observable, and multi-cloud , without turning customers into infrastructure operators. We build platform primitives that span a variety of execution environments (e.g., serverless-style runtimes, containerized fleets, and customer-controlled deployments).

Our work sits at the intersection of control plane + data plane: scaling decisions, isolation boundaries, multi-tenant safety, and production-grade observability. If you’ve built autoscaling systems, multi-tenant platforms, or cloud infrastructure, you’ll find a lot to love here.

See the "Compute team" link to read more --> Compute team - [new window opens]

As part of this role, you will:

Invent

Create new managed compute primitives that feel first-class in Temporal Cloud: crisp abstractions, clean APIs, and an extension story across compute providers.

Design self-optimizing autoscaling systems (signals, backstops, debouncing, guardrails) that scale worker fleets safely and predictably.

Define the Open Source Server ↔ Cloud boundary for compute capabilities, keeping the architecture cohesive and maintainable.

Own

Architect, build, and operate services on the hot path of task execution where performance and correctness are customer-visible.

Deliver real-world cloud integrations (e.g., customer-account execution): IAM boundaries, secure credentials handling, networking constraints, quotas, and failure modes.

Make operability a feature: SLOs, tracing/metrics, load and failure testing, incident reviews, and continuous hardening.

Ship end-to-end: API design, rollout strategy, backwards compatibility, and long-term maintenance.

Teach

Raise the bar through design docs, strong reviews, pragmatic technical leadership, and mentorship.

Lead through influence across teams (Server, SDKs, Security, Control Plane) to land coherent platform changes.

What you bring

Significant experience building distributed systems or multi-tenant platform services (design, implementation, and production operations).

Strong systems fundamentals: concurrency, performance, reliability, and failure-mode thinking.

A record of shipping platform primitives used by other engineers/customers (APIs, control planes, data planes).

Comfort owning outcomes: SLOs, incident response, and improving on-call quality over time.

Excellent written communication and crisp tradeoff thinking. (Go experience is a plus; judgment matters most.)

Nice to have

Experience building cloud infrastructure platforms.

Experience with IAM/security boundaries for cross-account execution models.

Having built Kubernetes controllers / CRDs or heterogeneous worker fleet operations.

Compensation

The estimated pay range for this role is $176,000 - $237,600.

Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Temporal's equity plan.

Compensation ranges reflect salary and commission compensation (when applicable) across several geographic markets. Employment offers carefully consider multiple factors, including prior experience, knowledge, expertise, skillset, market location, and job level assessed during the interview process.

Employee benefits and perks below are for full-time employees, part-time or temporary positions are excluded.

Highly organized and process-oriented; able to project manage cross-functional close cycles and meet recurring deadlines. Direct, clear communicator who can explain financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders. Energized by the prospect of building from the ground up and growing into broader scope as the team scales. Curious, humble, and collaborative , a strong fit with Temporal’s values.
